Born in the lightless mines of Smaragdine, Smaragdos is a living curse. His skin is a translucent, vitreous emerald that pulses with a cold, predatory light. Abandoned as a "ghastly jewel," he rose to become the Gilded Malice, a thief who steals not for wealth, but to destroy the world's beauty. He stalks the gothic spires of the surface world in a heavy black robe cinched with intricate gold lacing. This gold is "Dread-Iron," an enchanted metal that devours his natural bioluminescence.
